Speakers:

  • Robin Atherton
  • Ann Eutsler
  • Karen Hocker
  • Megan Atherton

Scriptures used:

  • Romans 7
  • Romans 8:1

Subject:

  • The Jews brought in the law and sought to bring the gentiles under the law.
  • The law is like a ruler having dominion over a man as long as they live, when under the law.
  • Marriage is joining together and becoming bound in a relationship before God. As long as both are living they are bound to one another. This is a comparison to the law and man.
  • We become dead to the law by entering into the body of Christ, He nailed the law to His cross with Him so it may no longer have dominion over us.
  • Being married to Christ is not the same as the marriage between man and woman it is like joining to metals together, becoming part in Christ’s body.
  • We are three parts; soul, spirit and flesh, Christ came to save our soul not our flesh.
  • We don’t have to agree with our thoughts from the flesh, we can with our mind choose to agree with the Word instead.
  • When we choose to agree with the Lord and what He would have us to do there can be joy from it. We need to choose from the heart.
  • If we hang on and wrestle things in the flesh, we will not get any victory.
  • Our flesh is just a house and who we are is inside that house and the house doesn’t matter.
  • The Lord is not going to bless obeying without submitting.
  • The Lord will not be fooled.
  • The law shows us sin, we are all sinners, no matter how “good” we look.
  • The law is not sin, it is instruction on what to do and what not to do for our good.
  • We can’t be held accountable for things we do not know, sin becomes evident once we know right from wrong.
  • Sin is deceitful, we find ourselves in places of pride and such and don’t realize it.
  • Life has always come through the grace and mercy of God, before the law, during the law and after the law.
  • We can’t keep the law, that is why Jesus came and did it for us and attributes it to those who will receive Him.
  • The law was there to show our utter need for a sacrifice, it was not there to kill us but to bring us to a place of knowing our need for Christ.
  • Justifying ourselves is one way sin deceives us.
  • We find ourselves saying and doing things we don’t want to do, that is our flesh. Through Jesus Christ with our mind we can choose to serve Him.
  • Believing the gospel is a freeing thing because we then are able to put this flesh off.
  • When we put our eyes on the Lord all else melts away, because there is hope in Him.
  • A good starting point is realizing that we do things wrong.
  • If we have been baptized there is a separation of the soul and flesh, so we can choose to put off the flesh.
  • Praise the Lord when we are shown the things we do are wrong, then we can choose to put them off and stand in His grace by faith.
  • God shows us through different things and people the things we are wrong in only what we can handle. If we saw all our wrongs at once we couldn’t bear it.
  • Our flesh is always going to disagree with our spirit. Our flesh is at war with the things of Christ.
  • The choosing is willing obedience, choosing from the heart.
  • Jesus’ crucifixion was not the end.  He rose and that is a thing to rejoice in, for there is hope in Him to be delivered from this body of death, into His body of life everlasting!
  • The captivity to the law of sin has no more dominion over those who are in Christ Jesus!
  • The flesh will be with us for the rest of our lives but we don’t have to agree with it.
  • We need to love our soul and others’ souls as well and put off the flesh.
