Speakers:

  • Robin Atherton
  • Ann Eutsler
  • Karen Hocker
  • Megan Atherton

Scriptures used:

  • Romans 3:28-31
  • Romans 4
  • Hebrews 11:11

Subject:

  • The purpose of the Law was to be as a schoolmaster, to show us how much we need a savior.
  • The gentiles did not have the Law, that does not exclude them from salvation in Christ.
  • There were several people throughout the Word, Old Testament and New Testament who were not natural Jews but by choosing God, became His people.
  • It has always been about faith.
  • The law shows the righteousness of God and the unrighteousness of Man.
  • Man can be saved solely by the blood of the Lamb which was sacrificed on the cross.
  • All who believe have Abraham as their father. His righteousness was attributed by God because he believed God. Abraham’s actions proved he believed God. He did what God said.
  • His acts of faith were counted for righteousness.
  • One who is works righteousness, it’s all debt.
  • Only if we believe in the sufficiency of the blood shed for us on the cross will we be counted as righteous.
  • We all have iniquity which is pride, God will impute sin to all who won’t believe God’s sacrifice is sufficient.
  • Because of David’s faith, he did the will of God, notwithstanding how much a wretched sinner he was.
  • Abraham was accounted righteous before circumcision, the circumcision became a sign of that faith.
  • There is no testimony of David keeping the Law, only obeying God.
  • Circumcision doesn’t reconcile you to God, faith in what He says does.
  • Abraham is our example and our promise.
  • God gave the promised land to Abraham and His seed, an everlasting covenant that still stands today.
  • Just because the law entered in, the promise did not change.
  • The law bringeth wrath because we break the law and there is punishment, but faith brings grace, forgiveness, etc…
  • Grace is unmerited favor, it is undeserved. God made a way for people like us, who fall short and have no other way, by His sacrifice.
  • Sarah’s womb was dead, but God quickened it to life.
  • The creation is an example of calling things which not as though they were is the creation.
  • How much are we beset by things of the world? Abraham staggered not at the promise of God, no matter what it looked like in the natural.  Stagger means to hesitate or waver.
  • Hope is confidence, expectation.
  • Abraham served the Lord and was a just master to his servants and a just man to his nephew, etc…
  • Abraham was singular in many ways. Everything in his natural eyes came against the things the Lord had promised, he still believed in hope. It gave glory to God.
  • Paul is establishing that righteousness is solely by faith as with Abraham.
  • We have to make the choice to give up our lives for Jesus, He will not make us.
  • Jesus overcame and was raised from the dead and that is our justification.
  • Abraham grew in confidence through obedience because God testified and was with Him, we can not have that outside of Christ.
