Subject:

  • Striving is not a battle of wills against your children but striving against the Lord.  One of the ways to show you are not striving against Him are noted in 2 Timothy 2:24-25.
  • Withhold not correction from the child.  An example of how to not withhold correction is when a child does not do something correctly and then you have to re-do it, you need to take the time to teach them to do it correctly.
  • We need to support all of our children not based on performance.  They can be loved and a blessing or a difficulty and it is our job to teach them the job of the one … to seek to serve their God out of a pure heart.
  • Rebellion is bound in the heart of a child.  * Correction:  It was mentioned that in Proverbs 22:15 rebellion is bound in the heart of a child, when in fact it says “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”
Your house is builded by having children.  Builded talks of obtaining children.
  • Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
  • Esau didn’t value his birthright enough to hold onto it.  He could have had a hope because of his birthright that he wasn’t going to die, but he wasn’t a man of faith.
  • Esau lost his birthright when he sold it to his brother, not when his father gave it after being deceived by Jacob.
  • Jacob values the truth and yet does not own it as a truth.  We can recognize that he is God, but not have Him as our God.
  • Jacob, having slept, had a vision of angels ascending and descending and yet he does not recognize God as his God, but the God of his father.
  • He recognizes he is not worthy but he brings it back to God what God had said.
  • The God of Israel becomes the God of Israel, Abraham and Jacob.
  • One of a number of verses in the Bible that shows God does not know everything is in Genesis 18:21:  “I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.”
  • The Lord said of Abraham “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment;  that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”
  • When Abraham commanded his children and his household that’s basically standing in and for the Lord and those who were around him would join with him at some point or would leave or be driven away by the Lord (we see this with Hagar).  So we see commanding your household isn’t commanding like a General in the army telling people where to go and what to do, but it goes back to 2 Timothy 2:24-25.
  • Lot and Noah are examples of men who stood firmly in the Lord and followed Him and because of that their children were saved and pulled out from destruction.
  • We are to push on like Abraham did to the point of holding nothing back from the Lord.  He believed the Lord above everything else and obeyed the order to sacrifice his son and that was when the Lord saw the faithfulness of Abraham.
  • The holy women of God who trusted in God … we have to make a choice to trust God and if we do, then we are daughters of Sarah.  Without faith it is impossible to please God.
