Subject:

  • Discouragement.
  • The Church of Philadelphia keeps God’s Word.  We have had that ministered to us, if we will keep that then we will be members of the Church of Philadelphia.
  • The Lord will not close the door on us if we will but believe Him.
  • We have the answer and an open door, the door is not shut because we messed up, we just need to re-enter.
  • If you heard it and got it, learn to stand in it and know that you got it and receive it.
  • All the things that get us down comes from our nature, in Him we overcome.
  • In the Olympics you can guarantee that there isn’t one person who hasn’t fallen and gotten back up and tried again.  This needs to be something we practice in the Lord.  We need to put our eyes back on the Lord and pick ourselves up and try again.
  • There’s no discouragement when you are in the body and your eyes are on the Lord and you’re serving Him.
  • The story about Peter and the boat says he looked around and saw the wind and waves and took his eyes off the Lord and that was when things started to get dire.
  • It’s all about our perspective.  If we are going to overcome (verse 12), there’s a responsibility on us to endure to the end or overcome and then you have to have the perspective (from verse 7) that if He has the door open nobody else can shut that door.
  • If we are in Him, then we have also overcome the world.  The discouragement comes when we take our eyes off the Lord and fixate on ourselves, our problems, what we do or don’t do, have or haven’t done etc.
  • Jesus died for me because I can’t do it, but in Him we can.  We are saved by grace, not by works.
  • We have to not care about us and care only about us in Him because that’s the only place of salvation.
  • It is Christs nature that we have to partake in.
  • He tells us to come boldly to the throne of grace in time of need, but we can only do that when we can get past the circumstances and come to Him and believe Him.
  • Patience is being steadfast and constant in the faith.
  • Putting Christ first most often means doing things that you do not want to do but that are right.  Get up and live for God.
  • When we pray “Create in me a clean heart” we have to hold onto the knowledge that He will even when we don’t see it.
  • Saul tried to fix things himself but David went back to the Lord and repented.
  • When we war to stand in hope, we have hope to offer another.  Until we avail ourselves of that (which is not necessarily easy, we do it out of need), we cannot truly help others.
  • Be strong in the grace.  Stand and move forward in Him, not ourselves.
  • The Word of God is true and we have to get out of the grip of what we think is true and believe the Word is true.
  • God is merciful, but it is on us to take that which He has already provided, by faith in Christ.
  • Command your soul to hope in God.  Exhortation, fellowship, equips us with the Word and with strength to fight the battle spiritually.
  • When Peter took his eyes off the Lord and he saw he was sinking and his perspective was wrong, he called out to the Lord and Jesus stretched out His hand and helped him.
  • If you ever say “You just don’t understand”, you need to realize that Jesus understands.
  • When you are in the middle of a “funk” or attitude, you want to justify staying in that position.
