TFM-Wednesday-Womens-Bible-StudySpeakers:

  • Robin Atherton
  • Megan Atherton
  • Karen Hocker

Scriptures used:

  • Luke 17
  • Titus 1:13
  • Mark 16:15
  • Jude 20
  • Romans 10:17
  • Romans 12:1

Subject:

  • Woe unto those through whom offenses come – those that bring a snare and a stumbling block to young Christians.  Those are the ones about whom Jesus says would be better if a millstone were hanged about their necks and cast into the sea.
  • Rebuke a brother who trespasses against you, but each time he repents, forgive him.  This is the agape love of Jesus.  This is the Gospel.
  • The apostles asked how they could increase their faith – faith as a grain of mustard seed, the tenacity of the mustard seed in finding a way to grow despite the things that come against it.  Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
  • We are unprofitable servants because our reasonable service is to serve the Lord.  Unprofitable means unmeritorious.  We should not expect anything for just doing our duty.
  • The story of the ten lepers who were cleansed.  Only one came back to give glory and thanks to the Lord.  He was a Samaritan.  He was someone who knew he didn’t deserve the good things of the Lord, and was very thankful.  The Lord cleansed all ten, but the one that came back was made whole.
  • The Pharisees demanded of Jesus when the Kingdom of God should come.  Jesus tells them that it will not come with observation, meaning it will not be seen with your eyes, because it is within you.  Jesus brought the Kingdom of God and they didn’t even know it.
  • Jesus tells them about the end of the age of the law.  This is when the temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.  One-half of the population was murdered indiscriminately.
  • The whole point of the law was to point Israel to the Gospel.  The Pharisees didn’t get this and still try to do the whole law.  It can’t be done and they didn’t realize it, condemning them.
  • Jesus warns the disciples of the things that will come to pass, and warns them of the time of Noah and the time of Lot.
  • The disciples asked where this would happen.  Jesus told them that it would happen right there in Jerusalem.  Wherever a dead corpse is, there will be buzzards around.
