Scriptures used:
- Luke 22:1-53
Subject:
- Jesus on His way to eat the last Passover with His disciples.
- Satan entered into Judas Iscariot and he covenanted with the chief priests and captains to betray Jesus.
- Jesus desired, longed for, looked forward to, having this Passover with the disciples.
- He took bread and brake it and the cup of the New Testament is His blood, which was shed for us. They didn’t know that this would be happening just a few days later.
- As it was determined – before this world God already had made the determination of how to save His people. Woe unto Judas.
- The disciples didn’t know their hearts well enough to know whether they would be the ones who would betray Jesus, then asking who should be the greatest. Showing they are just like all people. Jesus tells them that they have it wrong, the greatest among them is he who serves, not he who sits at meat.
- Jesus knew Peter would fall. He prayed for Peter that his faith fail not. Peter had to believe in the sufficiency of the blood of the Lamb.
- Jesus was tempted, yet without sin. Paul overcame temptations in a remarkable way. He would not compromise the truth for anything.
- Peter, by contrast, didn’t always contend with the people. He was hypocritical at times with the Jews.
- Jesus counseled His disciples to pray so as not to enter into temptation.
- Jesus didn’t want to go through this but He was doing the will of the Father. And He did it perfectly.
- An angel came from heaven strengthening Him, then he prayed even more earnestly and sweat blood.
- Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss – a sign of friendship. Jesus heals the ear that was severed by one of His disciples. Even healing a servant of the high priest on the way to His death on the cross.
