Subject:

  • This is how we know that we love the children of God … when we love God and keep His commandments.
  • In the story of the Good Samaritan Jesus asked who was neighbor unto the man by the way side, and the neighbor was the one who dealt kindly with him and shared the Gospel with him, paid the price for him.
  • The man whose son was possessed and Jesus asked if he believed and the man answered Yea Lord, but help thou mine unbelief.  Jesus healed him.  That was an example of the love of God.  God is the author of what is right for every one of us.
  • 1 Peter 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
  • We have nothing to offer Christ, He did it all for us, He paid the price and there is not a thing we can do to earn it.
  • If we believe Jesus is who He said He is, then we overcome.  There is no sin that can separate us from the love of God.  Only our choices based in unbelief can separate us from Him.
  • Lamentations 3:22  It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  23  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
  • The Spirit beareth witness because the Spirit is Truth.
  • Bear record and bear witness are the same word.  Evidence, Record, Report, Testimony are all definitions of bearing record or bearing witness.  There are 3 that give evidence and testify of the trinity.  Their testimony is in perfect agreement and never split.
  • Because we walk and trust Christ, the Spirit bears witness of the Truth of the Gospel that we walk in.
  • Depending on which translation or interpretation of the Bible you use, the power of God and the headship of Jesus is taken out of the Word of God.  The KJV shows the Word to be sharper than any two-edged sword.
  • 1 John 5:9  If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 ¶  He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
  • He that believeth not, God hath made him a liar; – You are found to be a liar if you do not believe.
  • This life is IN His son, so if we want that life, we have to be IN Christ Jesus.
  • He is the way, the truth and the life and no man cometh to the Father but by Him.  John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
  • v14 & 15 is about the confidence we can have in Him that if we ask anything according to His will He heareth us.
  • We should not say “God bless America”, we should say “May God bless America”, because one is coming humbly before the Lord and asking for His will to be done, the other is not asking but rather requiring as if ordering God to do our will and it is done in presumption.
  • The story of Hannah is a good example of knowing and having a confidence that His will be done and our prayers will be answered.
  • v16-17 is talking about those who are born of God who will not blaspheme the Holy Ghost.  They’re going to believe God.  In our natural man, we don’t, but in our spiritual man, we do.
  • Sin unto death is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.  An example of someone who blasphemed the Holy Ghost would be Nicodemus & Pharisees who came to Jesus saying “We know that thou art a teacher come from God…”, but they blasphemed Him by saying that He cast out devils by Beelzebub when they knew that was not true.  (Matthew 12).
  • Fear is food for the devils.  If you fear something, it becomes stronger and it becomes your god.
  • Perfect love casteth out fear.
  • It is easy to give in to idolatry, and this can be anything you place before the Lord… a person, a thing, music, television, work, family, friends, stuff, fear, doubt, unbelief.
