TFM-Wednesday-Womens-Bible-Study

Speakers:

  • Robin Atherton
  • Karen Hocker
  • Megan Atherton

Scriptures used:

  • 3 John
  • Matthew 23:13
  • Matthew 23:11
  • 1 John 2:6
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:6

Subject:

  • Gaius was a person who John was joyful to see walking in the truth.
  • The Lord wants us to prosper.  He rewards his children who are obedient servants.
  • When we do our part He does His.  We need to receive spiritual and physical things of God.
  • There is nothing that brings John more joy than ministering and building up the body and then bearing fruit.
  • Walkest:  to live, deport oneself, occupy oneself with.
  • Gaius was a faithful servant to brethren and to strangers.  He uses what he has been given, faithfully.
  • Godly sort:  let the Lord lead you in it and do it.
  • The Body of Christ is called to support that ministry even if we are not there, it takes time and money to support the truth being brought forth in the Body of Christ.
  • He went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.  He freely gave to them in charity:  the agape love of God.
  • Diotrophes:  as a pharisee – rejects the people John is exhorting Gaius to support.
  • Matt 23:13:  describes Diotrophes well.
  • John will remember Diotrophes when he comes, his rejection of apostolic authority, hence rejection of God.
  • He can destroy others’ faith.
  • 2 Thess 3:6:  withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
  • Matt 23:11:  He that is greatest shall be servant of all.  Diotrophes had this backwards.
  • Follow:  Imitate.  That which is good.  Not good works that feel good.  That which is good is of God.
  • The gospel is there for all until the door shuts.
  • 1 John 2:6:  we are going after that by faith.  We walk in His faith and walk as He did.  That is the mark Paul kept pressing toward.
  • Demetrius – good report – a faithful man of God.
  • We are ambassadors of God – we need to walk right before the Lord.
  • Ambassadors take advantage of the position they have in the world.  We are not to have that and do that.
  • Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
  • There is more to write but John hopes to see Gaius face to face.
  • Greet the brethren by name.  All members are important.  There is no respector of persons in the Lord.
  • Be strong and of a good courage.  Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
