TFM-Northfield-VermontSpeakers:

  • Steven Atherton
  • Charles Hocker

Scriptures used:

  • Matthew 7:7-12
  • James 4:1-3
  • Psalms 37

Subject:

  • The Lord wants us to have joy so we can show others what Jesus is about.
  • We have to come to the point to want to receive it.
  • If you want joy, receive it and walk around with it for others to see so they will want that joy too.
  • How many times do we ask the Lord for things of the world and consume it upon our lusts?  He loves us enough to not give those to us.
  • Ask of the Lord the things of Him to serve Him; for example, joy and peace.
  • We want to be justified.  We want God to give us these things to justify us before others.
  • Our nature is to be evil.  We see ourselves as being the good ones.  That’s a natural thing.
  • We see fellow Christians going forward and we get offended because we feel that God is not with us.
  • We get that spirit of envy.  We envy those who aren’t Christians who seem to get ahead of us.
  • It’s not easy to not justify ourselves in different situations; it’s painful.
  • Fret not thyself because of evildoers.  Some people want to get even from that day forward.  If they could take an ounce of the diligence they have in getting even and instead turn it to the Lord, how things would change.
  • When the Lord forgives us, we want to free others who need forgiveness.  Not everyone wants to be forgiven.  God gives us a free will.
  • God resists the proud.  They are just.
  • When we realize we’re not just we can then minister unto others and they can get free.  That takes humility.
  • In Ps 37:17 the earth means the new heaven and new earth, not this earth.
  • When He shows us attributes that we have that we think are good, He shows us they are evil and it hurts.
  • We can have mercy on others if we realize we are not good.
  • People who think they are good and others exalting them in the world – is hard to watch, the reward of evil.  They actually think they are doing good.  If I fret about this it is impossible to stand it.
  • Trust in the Lord and do good and desire these people to come to a place where they can turn around.
