TFM-Northfield-VermontSpeakers:

  • Steven Atherton
  • Charles Hocker

Scriptures used:

  • 2 Timothy 4:1-8

Subject:

  • People are going to church but not finding the truth there.
  • When Charles first heard the truth he knew it was the truth.
  • People become complacent and don’t really care to know the truth because it’s all about how they feel.  God’s Word is offensive to the world.
  • Don’t get complacent and quit fighting.
  • Our mission is to let others know there is a hope in The Lord.
  • When talking to People from Vermont 50 and older – there was a time that the church was the center of the community.
  • People didn’t get anything out of it and stopped going. Vermont is broken, destroyed. People are looking for something.
  • They are looking in all the wrong places and they are suffering.
  • Things don’t sound right in the churches here.  The other bibles such as the good news bible don’t rebuke or reprove.  It doesn’t provoke you to fear.
  • The churches of today believe that rebuking people would be wrong.  They became a soap box for other ideas other than the Lord’s Word.
  • People stopped going to church and those who still went thought they were better than the others.
  • Trust in the power of God to break through and have pity on them.
  • Yield unto the Word.  God will not make you do anything.
  • Jesus ministered to people right how he found them, it didn’t matter.  Example:  the Samaritan woman at the well.
  • The Word will work in our hearts, and is powerful. Don’t underestimate the power of the Word.
  • Reprove, rebuke, exhort if you believe God.  Preach the word.  A soapbox is preach a word.
  • Jesus never changes, that’s who you should preach.
  • We don’t always want to preach the Word.  We are his, bought with a price.  Our lives are no longer our own.  In that place we can preach the Word and be a servant in season and out of season.  When we are about His business He will make known to us what to do in any situation.  If our eyes are on Him ideas will come into your head.  Good ideas, and things start happening.
  • When you start walking in that you will want more of it.  The Lord starts working with you.
  • We are not perfect but we have that which is perfect, Christ.  When we are corrected we don’t like it but know things aren’t quite right. He corrects us and shows us our faults.
  • Rebuke happens when reproof doesn’t work.  It is much less pleasant than reproof.
  • Exhort:  even when we know what we’re supposed to do, sometimes we need someone to remind us, exhortation is good.  Sometimes we don’t want to hear it, but it is good for us.
  • The Word is the standard.  How can you judge yourself without the Word?
  • Don’t let your past rule what you will do in the future.  If you want something better, ask the Lord for help.
  • If you get the Word into you he will show you how it applies in your lives and it will be yours and you can minister unto others.
  • For an example, the Samaritan woman at the well:  The Lord has meat that they know not of, He means spiritual meat, not natural meat.
