TFM-Northfield-VermontSpeakers:

  • Steven Atherton
  • Robin Atherton

Scriptures used:

  • Colossians 2:1
  • Hebrews 4

Subject:

  • The goodness of God came down to earth, taught 11 guys the truth (and many others), he hung on the cross, rose from the dead, finished the work, He is the author and finisher of faith and we partake of that victory.  He was victorious, He said it and it is finished and we partake of that victory by faith as the body of Christ.
  • Their hearts might be comforted – it doesn’t say their flesh might be comforted because the battle we run into each day is choosing which way we will go … will we walk after the flesh or the spirit (by faith).
  • If we walk after the spirit, our flesh will be yelling at us telling us what a sorry individual we are and that is why we need our heart comforted.
  • We struggle to believe all those things in the Bible to be true and that we can do that too because what we see with our natural eyes is not pleasing and something that causes us sorrow.
  • I’m trading my sorrows for the joy of the Lord.
  • “Post-partum depression” – motherhood is not what you thought it was going to be.  The joy of the Lord is something we walk in by faith and by our choice to believe God, this is when we enter into the living waters that renew us to go forth with boldness leaving everything else behind.  It is simply a change of your heart to believe God.
  • Every single one of us struggles to believe that the sufficiency of the blood of Jesus Christ is all we need.
  • Everything in our flesh testifies against us.
  • We have all gone through the same struggle – in spite of what you think – the struggle is against unbelief.  Because we have the experience, we can have compassion on one another.
  • Jesus died to break the curse so we can live every breathing moment in Christ Jesus in the assurance of His ability to wash over every sin.
  • Colossians 2:3.  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.  In Him are hid all wisdom and knowledge…… if you are in Him they are not hid from you!  If you are not in Him, then they ARE hid from you.
  • It’s by grace and grace alone that we are saved.  It’s only by grace that we are saved.
  • How simple it is to be a Christian – all you have to do is know Him – in Him are hidden wisdom and knowledge.
  • Enticing words:  the leaven of Herod.  What does Jesus say?  Do we ever wonder why David was saved and Saul went to hell?  Or what is so special about Abraham?  The Word shows that by GRACE we are saved.  It shows their failures because we fail and need to be comforted.
  • Hebrews 4:  Fear:  because of worry we feel important.
  • Seem to come short of it – fear is a big motivator; fight against falling short.  Lord wash me clean, put off this doubt and unbelief.  It is our own fault if we fall short.  Get mad and determine to not fall after the children of Israel’s example.
  • Take the Word and mix it with faith:  do what the Word says.  Be thankful for the Word, operate in obedience to it, cast off all contrary thoughts.  If you do this nothing will hold you back.
  • We have entered into rest – ceased from our own works.  Own works:  putting the fig leaf on:  establishing our own righteousness:  this is operating in unbelief.
  • Believe God and go forward in faith was the divide they never crossed.  They offered the works of Cain.
  • Get shed of any notion of offering things yourself.  Make it a habit to lean on Him.
  • Labor against unbelief – His mercies are new every morning.  Looking at the wrong thing – what you can do.
  • Go forward in what Christ can do and what He did for you.  Get over yourself.  There is a lot to be embarrassed about.  Who cares?
  • He understands what we go through.  Believe on Me is the way out.
  • Come boldly unto the throne of grace to obtain mercy.
  • The last thing on your mind is boldness but you come boldly because you believe His promise.
  • We belong to the household of God.
  • The only household that matters is the household of faith.
  • If we do this the world will know there is a God.
