Scriptures Used:

  • 1 John 2:15-28

  • 1 Corinthians 2:4
  • Galatians 2:16
  • Hebrews 12:1

Subject:

  • Promises have a tendency to shape our lives.  Some are kept, some are not and it seems the promises not kept weigh more than those that were kept.
  • A promise kept is a truth, a promise not kept is a lie.
  • Take a look at the Articles of Faith.  We who are members of this body have agreed to not just read the Articles of Faith but to believing them and preaching them.  This means studying each scripture listed with those articles so you can preach with confidence in the Lord that you are preaching correctly.
  • Speak the same thing, be no divisions among you, joined together in the same mind and same judgment.
  • When we go out and counsel or preaching or sharing, we should all be saying the same thing.
  • The witness of the Lord comes when we speak the same thing.
  • If we are one in the body as we are called to be, we will all have the same mind and share the same Gospel.
  • That doesn’t mean we all do the same thing, it means to have the same mind.
  • Treat one another as Jesus treats us, love one another, forgive one another, support one another and treat all men the same.
  • Condescend to men of low estate means to lead men of low estate.  We are to lead them in the direction of Jesus Christ.
  • Be not wise in your own conceits (vain imaginations).  We become too puffed up on our education and knowledge, which means nothing.  Our wisdom is nothing compared with God’s wisdom.
  • Our only knowledge and wisdom and hope comes from the Lord.
  • When Paul preached to people his knowledge meant nothing, he demonstrated the Holy Spirit and it was the power of the Holy Spirit that testified of Jesus.
  • Paul preached God’s wisdom and that’s what we should do.  Without Him, we are nothing.
  • Paul came in demonstration of power, this is how we should be when we bring the Gospel to people.
  • When we preach the Gospel the power of God is demonstrated when we pray for them and they are healed.
  • The wisdom of God does not operate as the wisdom of men.  The knowledge of God is not the same as the knowledge of men.
  • By the faith of Jesus Christ we are justified.  You are not justified by your faith in Christ.  You cannot know or do, because you have faith in Christ.  You are justified by Christ’s faith in His ability to cover you with His grace, His love, His mercy and His power.  You are not justified by your ability to believe Him.  You are justified by His ability to believe in Himself.
  • Your salvation is not based on how good you are or how well you perform or how well you can believe Him, it’s based on how He can believe Himself.
  • You would not be hearing this message if God hadn’t made a way for you to walk in the power of God.  He’s given you the way:  stop trusting in your own faith and your own abilities and begin trusting in His own faith in His own abilities to perform in and through you.
  • Hebrews 12:1 – Who are these witnesses?  The witnesses are those who performed as God told them to perform as God said to perform because they believed God, Abraham, Isaac, Elijah, Elisha, David, anyone who believed God and He was able to work through them.  We can add Peter, James, John, Paul from the new testament who did as God said.  Phillip, Steven – yes, they too did it and are witnesses to what we are doing.  They are the witnesses who surround us when we go forth and give out the Gospel.  They are the witnesses who report back to the Lord, so what are they going to report?  That we believed God and had faith in Him and preached Him or are they going to report that you sat back wringing your hands because you weren’t good enough?
