  • Romans 8:19
  • John 4:23-24
  • Proverbs 3:5-6

Subject:

  • Let’s start with the cross …. what makes a thief a thief?  What makes a liar a liar?  How many times does it take before you are called a murderer or fornicator or adulterer or covetous or judge?
  • The wages of sin is death … all it takes is one sin and you are a sinner.
  • We are ALL sinners, if we say we are not, we are liars and therefore are sinners.
  • The 3 crosses and the thieves on the crosses.
  • Where sin abounds, grace abounds more.
  • Levi (also known as Matthew – who was a tax collector) left all, rose up and followed him.
  • They that are whole, need not a physician.
  • We are told not to murmur and complaining.
  • You have to know you are a sinner before you can come to the cross and acknowledge your need of a Savior.
  • He is the King of Kings, that’s who He is and He has called us to worship Him.
  • Delight yourselves in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
  • In the movie Ben Hur you see the blood running down at the cross.  At the cross is where the light is, that we have joy, peace and life eternal.  I’ve been redeemed by the blood of the lamb.
  • Matthew got up immediately and followed Jesus was because he wanted a different life, he wanted a way out.  When Jesus and the opportunity came, he seized the opportunity.
  • When you look at others and can’t understand why they do the things they do, you are in the same place Paul was when he was alienated from Christ trying to kill Christians.
  • The Scribes and Pharisees were white washed sepulchres.
  • The three Baptisms.
  • There is none good but the Father in Heaven.  Why do we consider ourselves good?
  • It is an honor to worship the Lord.  Worship in spirit and in truth.
  • The call of Levi (aka Matthew) the Publican.
  • The scribes and pharisees judgment of Jesus and His disciples as sinners.
  • The vile nature of our flesh and how it just sins no matter how hard we try not to.
  • How one’s focus on cleaning up one’s flesh like the Pharisees misses the point of Christ’s sacrifice.
  • Putting off the carnal mind and putting on the mind of Jesus Christ.
  • How the Gospel liberates you to worship God in Spirit and in truth.
  • The centrality of obedience – i.e. if you love me keep my commandments.
  • Loving God, loving your neighbor and loving your enemies.
