TFM-Wednesday-Womens-Bible-StudySpeakers:

  • Robin Atherton
  • Megan Atherton
  • Karen Hocker

Scriptures used:

  • Luke 21
  • Exodus 22:22-24
  • Matthew 10:28

Subject:

  • The story of the widow casting in two mites.  She gave more than all of the ones who gave of their abundance, because she cast in all that she had.  This was faith.
  • The Scribes and Pharisees were obligated under the law to not afflict any widow or fatherless child.  Yet there they were devouring widows’ houses.
  • The temple will be thrown down.  The passage of vs. 8-24 talks about the end of the age of the law.  This is about 30 A.D. and the end of the age is 70 A.D.
  • Tragic events attributed to things that do not speak of signs that shall be from heaven.  The testimony is that great signs from heaven are coming.  It’s not overuse of the planet, it is judgment.
  • Before all of this takes place they will take you and lay hands on you and persecute you and deliver you up to the churches of God.
  • Settle it in your hearts that you will not answer to these things.  God will give you a mouth and wisdom.  You can’t come up with the answer.
  • They will not be able to deny God’s Word.  They will still kill, there is a clear instance of Stephen being stoned, after having received the words from the Lord and speaking them unto the people.  Not the result of any written sermon or meditation, but hearing the Word of God and receiving it.
  • Jesus told them they will be betrayed by parents and kinsfolk and friends and be put to death.  These were all Jews who had been raised up as children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  James the son of Zebedee was martyred.  Stephen was martyred.
  • You will be hated of all who are not in submission and adherence to God and His way.  Because you bear the name of Jesus rightly.   You are saved by grace, not by works.  There is no other way but by grace.
  • There will not an hair of your head perish.  Matt. 10:28.  Fear not those who kill the body but He who is able to destroy both body and soul in hell.  He calls us not to fear because we are His children.  There is nothing they can do to us that really matters.
  • In your patience possess ye your souls:  endurance, constancy.  With cheerfulness and hopefulness.  We are now living for the hope of the reconciliation and eternity with God.  He has plainly stated that we will have tribulation on the earth but be of good cheer, He has overcome the world.
  • You have to choose to be patient and possess your soul but it goes against everything that you feel, and things that you think.  It doesn’t set well in the natural man.
  • Don’t be terrified, you won’t perish.  He will bring us through to be with Him in heaven, to those who take heed and aren’t deceived.  We need the exhortation and fellowship and to learn and not be slothful with the opportunity He gives us each day.
  • Daniel has a lot of the prophecy of this time (the end of the age of the law) in chapter 9 of his book.
  • Israel had rejected God.  It is a time of woes, distress and sorrow in the land that came upon Israel because they didn’t hold fast to the Lord their God.  It is a time  when the Gentiles are receiving the gospel.  There is a time frame of the closing of one age and the beginning of another age.
  • In v. 25, the time is upon us.  Signs in the sun, moon and stars, these things will come upon the earth and man’s heart will fail him for fear:  like the men of Jericho who were inside a walled city and the men of Israel marching around them.  They knew the judgment of God and had no heart to fight it.  They knew the land they were dwelling in had been given to Israel.  All except for Rahab because she asked Him for mercy.  They shrunk and died in their Godlessness.
  • The sea and the waves roaring:  things that are coming due to man’s rebellion against God, not global warming or any other of that garbage that is out there to give men other things to look at other than the Lord.
  • Romans 11:25 – the fullness of the Gentiles shall come in.
  • Fig tree and all the trees:  you can tell when summer is near by looking at them.  His words shall not pass away.  God and His Word are the only things that won’t pass away.  He doesn’t change.  You can take Him at His Word.
  • Believe the Lord.  Be attentive, be watchful, knowing these things are going to come to pass and He is with you if you walk with Him.  Don’t be taken by a snare.
  • We believe in the sufficiency of the cross.  We will come to stand before the Son of Man.
  • Every day He taught in the temple.  He would sleep in the Mount of Olives.  In the last week of His earthly life He is about God’s business and being strengthened by God, and on the last leg of His journey.
  • We forget that we need to watch and pray, cast our cares on the Lord and trust Him.  Watch and pray always and take heed so we don’t become overrun by things.
