- Scott Bishop
Scriptures used:
- Philippians 2:1-5
- Psalm 23:1
Subject:
- Each of us has a physical body with a head, arms, legs, fingers. Likewise the church is a body with Jesus as the head. If my head tells my feet to walk across the room and my feet don’t do what my head told me to do I am not going to get there. If Jesus is the head of this body, which is the church, and he tells someone to do something and they don’t do it may not get done and he is going to have to ask someone else to do it. What is going to happen to that member who didn’t do what they were supposed to do, they are going to get cut off, as has been preached the last couple of weeks, getting cut off from the vine.
- How do I bring the Gospel to my grandfather, looking for an opportunity to mention things and speak. The opportunity arose and I asked, do you know that Jesus loves you and his answer was yes and that he was ready to go home.
- When the doctors asked him what they could do for him he said, I want to go home.
- It was like a two edged sword, sad for Scott but happy for his Grandfather who must have a Hope of something better, not hanging onto to this life, he has a hope of something far more precious..
- The Lord showed Scott how often his Grandfather had preached the Gospel to him, where he loved him, where he had forgiven him.
- Gramps had been praying for about 15 minutes straight and nobody could talk with him. When the phone rang he stopped. Scott told him he loved him but more importantly I want to tell you that Jesus loves you.
- Jesus might know this man and he has a better Hope than we can give him here on earth. It is that hope that each and every one of us can have.
- We shouldn’t need to tell people but rather show them the love of God, we can make a difference.
- If we want to be part of the body of Christ we need to tap into the vine and get some of the sap, some of that love and share it to be fruitful.
- Showing the Gospel through actions – Paul’s only source of heat is a heat pump conditioner . Everybody know it is not enough to heat when it has been as cold as it has been. We need to be mindful of the things of others. If we see a person in need, we need to do whatever we can to take care of that even if we have to take from ourselves.
- If we as Christians want to be fruitful in the Lord, if we are going to serve God we need to start looking, pay attention, at what’s going on around us.
- Want to provoke us to open our eyes, to look around to see if there is a way to show love, if there is a way to meet their needs.
- Psalm 23 says “I shall not want” – as a child he learned to replace the word “want” for “need” for it to be supplied.
- A lot of the things we think we need, and we get them, 10 days later we don’t need them anymore. As soon as the neatness wears off we got to have something different, got to find something else to fill that want void.
- There are lots of things in our lives that we really wanted and really needed but after we got them they are not that important anymore.
- There is only one thing that Richard found that he wanted and he needed, and when he got it, it took that place and he did not want anymore. That one thing was Jesus, a personal, living relationship with the Jesus Christ. It is the only thing that takes that want button and throws it away, the only thing.
- We all have things the natural man needs, we need food, we need air to breathe, we need water to drink. We need to be warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot.
- If we learn to look at one another, and be mindful of others, and to look not on our own things, what I’ve got but what you have or don’t have. That is what it means to be mindful of other people’s things, what are their needs.
- If you have the love of Christ you are going to see these needs and you’re going to want to take care of those needs.
- Phillip had been sick so others came and repaired a broken water pipe at his home for him. That’s showing the Gospel.
- Always be watchful around us, to all of us, not just the obvious, but look for that which isn’t so obvious. That’s the way you can show the love of God, and preach the Gospel with your actions not just with your words.
