TFM-Northfield-VermontSpeakers:

  • Steven Atherton
  • Charles Hocker

Scriptures used:

  • Matthew 25:1-13
  • Proverbs 28:13-14
  • Proverbs 27:19
  • 1 Corinthians 1:10

Subject:

  • The difference between those who chose to buy the oil and those who didn’t.
  • The oil is the Holy Ghost.  The ones who chose the oil were not caught unawares.
  • The foolish were those who accepted the Lord and went about their business.
  • How many have I been like the unwise, and gotten something from the Lord and gone about my business.  And my light gets dim.
  • There will come a time when we will not be prepared unless we prepare now.
  • We can’t be caught without that oil.  It’s a fight to go forward.  It’s a fight of life and death.
  • The time is always right now.  We don’t know if we have another day or another minute.
  • We aren’t the people we like to think we are but we are like those described in the Bible, desperately wicked.
  • When you cover your sins in the Kingdom of God, you will not prosper.  You will prosper in the world, but not in the Lord when you cover your sins.
  • One of the ways we cover sins:  like the Pharisees did.  Make yourself look good after the flesh.
  • Another:  “I’m saved by grace”, so they don’t need to change.
  • Forsaketh sins:  turn from them.  Hate them.  Acknowledge they are wrong.
  • Then you shall have mercy.  Do you want the mercy of the Lord?
  • We have to come to terms with our own wickedness.
  • As in water, face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.  We don’t like it when we are shown our heart.
  • When we get angry at someone for doing something, then realizing that we are just like that.
  • When we see this things, we can rightly divide the battle, and win.  As long as you avoid the battle, you are losing.
  • The walk of faith:  as you go along you find out how wicked and evil you are more and more.
  • That puts you in the prison but the blood of Jesus Christ lets you out.
  • Can we be perfect?  Comes up 94 times in the Bible.  Noah was perfect, the only one on the whole earth, and his wife and children in submission to him were saved also.
  • “Be thou perfect” .  Chronicles and Kings:  Asa was perfect, and various others were perfect also.
  • Jesus himself in Matthew 5:48 says “Be ye therefore perfect, even as you father which is in heaven is perfect”.
  • We are commanded to be perfect, so we can be perfect.
  • Do we want to be perfect or to do what we want to do?
  • Scripture tells us He will give us the will to do His will.  If we confess and ask Him to fortify us to do His will.  Make it our desire to do His will.
  • When we are shown His will, we need to forsake our own will.  It is painful to forsake our own will and to do His will.
  • Jesus had to die for us.  He had to live a perfect sinless life amongst us.
  • We need to realize that our way is death.  Then we will be willing to give up that way.
  • Happy is the man that feareth alway.  The man that feareth is not afraid to give up his own ways.
  • Put  down the pride.  When we put that down He lets us partake of everything He is doing throughout the day.
  • We are called to go forward as that perfect man.  1 Corinthians 1:10.  We are called to be of the same mind.  This message has been from the beginning.
  • It has not yet been fulfilled.  If it was, we would be perfect.
  • We can’t get there by avoiding these things.  We get there by passing through these things.
  • Every day of our lives we have to apply the blood of Christ and walk in Him.  Stepping out in what He says.
  • We kid ourselves thinking we know something.
  • We need to re-learn His ways.  He wants no part of our ways.  Without Him you can do nothing.  When you realize this, you can do ALL things through Christ Jesus.
