- Matthew 6:22-24
Subject:
- What are your gods that you uphold and esteem, that keep you from walking in the strength, wisdom and power of our Lord Jesus Christ? If you serve money, job, status, life, your car, the school you went to, (or many others) by putting them before Him, you can not serve the Lord.
- Jesus commanded us to love the Lord your God with all, not some or a part. We have to be about the Lord’s business and focus on Him alone and not on the world.
- What makes a community Christian? It is that they have one mind therefore agree with one another.
- The just shall live by faith. Rules are of men for show and don’t do you any good. If you all have a personal relationship with Jesus and seek Him then you will move in the same direction without any strife. The law couldn’t impart the Holy Spirit or bring forth perfection or work miracles. The law separates you from the power of God.
- Follow Jesus with faith and single mindedness if you want to be blessed like Abraham. He was justified by faith over 400 years before the law. The law was not needed for salvation. The law, the rules of men, all these things are not faith but sight and flesh.
- What you wear or where you live, what you look like, what you do or don’t do does not matter but what does matter is that you live by faith in Jesus Christ.
- Things like: I’m no good; there is nothing good about me; I can’t do anything right; have been preached today. In the flesh we are pitiful and not worth anything but do we want to live in the flesh or in the Spirit. Do we want to walk in the flesh or do we want to walk in the Spirit?
- The light of the body is the eye which needs to be single, that is fixed on Jesus and His ways then you are full of light. If your eye is fixed on the things of the world and what other people do or how they think of you etc, you have an evil heart full of darkness and it is great darkness. It should not be that way in the church of God.
- If your eye is single then you can love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself, regardless of what they do, how they sound or what they think.
- Understand that when you worry about what others think or sound or how they talk to you, it is simply pride. You think you are better than them and you deserve better and that is evil, regardless of who you are. If your eye is single you will wholly serving the Lord and seek to please Him you will not worry about what other people do, you will love them and see right past it, like it’s not even there. It can be done, it would not have been given to us to do if it couldn’t be done.
- It is simply a matter of making the choice.
- No man can serve two masters. God and mammon are the two masters, you can’t serve God and money.
- A person is in danger when they are afraid that some of the the inheritance their children receive may be given to a ministry. Who is that person’s god? Mammon not God.
- It took courage for the preacher to say what he did and he was right. People have been offended at me when I took my team out for a meal. Their eye was not single and on the Lord, they did not care about the things of the Lord, their god was their money. The churches are full of that spirit.
- If you want to give an inheritance to a child you give it and what the child does with it you shouldn’t care about it. Some people give to the church for the same reason. They say it is their tithe and they are giving it to the church but want it spent in a particular way – that is not a tithe, it is a bribe. If you give to God what is it to you what He uses it for?
- A preacher at a revival when the offering was about to be taken and said, “Before you take out your money let me tell you I’m going to take my team out tonight and I’m going to take money out of that basket for a good steak dinner with all the trimmings and if you have a problem with that then keep your lousy money in your pocket and let it go to hell with you.”
- Look at the children of Israel in the desert when Balaam was asked to curse them. God showed Balaam Israel from above the cloud and from under the cloud. All he saw from under the cloud was a hard hearted, stiff-necked people but through the cloud he saw tents of righteousness and a holy nation – that’s you and that’s me.
- If we look at each other through the grace of Jesus Christ with a single eye then all we see is a holy people because then we’re seeing what God sees. But if my eye is evil,I’ll see everything that’s wrong with every one of you. I’ll be able to pick you apart for this and that problem. Why, because I’m so good.
- If you get to heaven and start justifying yourself, God is going to kick you to where you don’t want to go. You will be one of those where He said, ”get you away from me you workers of iniquity, for I never knew you.”
- This is an important verse and important lesson and you can do it – learn to let your eye be single and look at one another through the cloud which is the grace of God, and then the blessings God will work in you mightily, because it is no longer about you, it’s about Jesus.
- Understand the purpose of you being here, the purpose of your calling to the Lord is to represent and be as Christ was. Where would Islam be today if every Christian who called on the name of the Lord could do the works that Jesus did? What hold would Islam have on the world, what power would they have? Absolutely none!
- Where would all the religions be if every Christian who spied a cripple could say I have no money but I’ve got something else – in the name of Jesus rise up and walk? If every Christian could do that where would be the gainsayers, the unbelievers? If every Christian did it the unbeliever’s mouths would be shut and they’d be changed.
- If our eye is single then we’ll be full of the light of the Lord, and If we be full of the light of the Lord then we will serve Him first and foremost above all things and then we’ll be in the place where we can truly represent Christ on this earth.
- People say I just want people to see Christ in me. I don’t want people to see Christ in me, I want people to see Christ through me. I want people to see Christ through you.
