TFM-Northfield-VermontSpeakers:

  • Steven Atherton
  • Charles Hocker

Scriptures used:

  • 2 Timothy 2:3
  • Romans 12:3
  • Hebrews 13:17
  • Philippians 3
  • Proverbs 1

Subject:

  • When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we become part of army – a volunteer army We train to become an effective part of the unit.
  • Things in the natural reflect things in the spiritual.
  • Commander in chief is Jesus Christ.  Under Him are generals, colonels, majors, captains, lieutenants, etc.
  • Some of the Combat arms are infantry and artillery The main focus of the whole army is the infantry.
  • When we join God’s army we volunteer and come in as a private.
  • Faith is proportional to our place in the military As we gain knowledge and experience we move up in rank When you enlist you get a small weapon M16, a tiny bullet.
  • You then move from an M-16 to an M-60.
  • As our faith increases in The Lord that same thing happens When I first entered God’s army I didn’t understand the battle itself.
  • I could see what was happening but didn’t get it As you grow in The Lord you get a better picture of that battle Your rank is based upon your faith.
  • Engaging in a battle -I don’t necessarily have a full picture of what’s going on.
  • We have to learn to look to those with the bigger weapons.
  • They have a better overview of that battle.  They know what else is going on that I don’t know so then I get the help from those above me.
  • We as a body have that firepower.
  • We need to use it.
  • What if the General doesn’t know that you are in need?
  • I’d we’re not working together it won’t work and we are in trouble.
  • I need the help of others, let’s learn to ask for that help.
  • We need to be toughened up in combat.
  • Many Christians have not reported for duty as a soldier.
  • When you’re just beginning to get there and you turn around all the people going the other way are going to resist you.  It’s a spiritual battle, you need help.
  • We have someone to go to, unlike the natural army.
  • We have access to the Commander-in-Chief.   Always. And He takes care of it.
  • Let’s put our faith in The Lord and he will work with those above us.
  • We come in as a private because we need to learn to serve.
  • We receive from everyone in the body, if you show yourself faithful in little you will be faithful in much.
  • We will move forward in that way, when we are faithful in little he gives us more, Remember the ax head that went into the water and Elisha made it swim – there is nothing too small for God to intervene on in our lives.
  • The gift of healing:  As you believe you receive it you use it for others.  With a word or a touch.  God handles it, we don’t know but don’t need to know.  Jesus does it for us.
  • While on the narrow way that leads to salvation you get to enjoy a lot of things.  We don’t like to trade those things like sorrows and pain as the Yes Lord song because we want to justify ourselves in our pain, hold a grudge, etc.
  • Circumcision is of the heart.
  • Rejoicing in what The Lord has done and is capable of, no confidence in what our flesh can do or has done.
  • You can fall off that narrow way if you are extremely successful in the world.
  • All things which were gain to Paul he counted as dung, and he studied under Gamaliel and was exalted in the world.
  • He stopped trying to justify himself by what he does.
  • He chose the righteousness of God by faith that no man can earn.
  • We can see it when it’s on somebody.
  • We go out to do things to demonstrate our faith.
  • We look at the Word and do in accordance with it and The Lord moves to accomplish it and He gets the glory and all can be saved.
  • Wisdom is not a girl here, but is meant as a desired thing like guys seek girls.
  • Everywhere we go Jesus is there seeking to show people the way out.
  • When we are in a store people generally have attitude in line.  Letting people go before you is showing people another way.
  • Simple one -not great anything -loves simplicity -because no responsibility is required, for example Scorners delight in scorning – people who scorn God’s word Fools hate knowledge of the truth.
  • Physical evidence confirms God’s word – re evolution theory, Fossils are created through pressure, there was No Big Bang Scorners choose to believe everything but the truth When you know what is the truth the lie gets put down Turn you at my reproof.  Reproof means correction.
  • We don’t like it but learn to prefer it because we were going the wrong way.
  • Foolish, scorners, and simple -he will pour out his word unto them!
  • If you are not a good studier but want to study His word, he will make you a good studier!
  • He makes known His words unto us through the line of authority If we don’t choose the fear of The Lord he will laugh at our calamity.  We don’t want to be there.
  • Hope in his mercy and grace
  • The bible used to be used as a law book thru the late 40s, commonly used for judgment.
  • Since then things have changed drastically.
  • We need to go forward in what The Lord has for us.
