TFM-Northfield-VermontSpeakers:

  • Steven Atherton
  • Charles Hocker

Scriptures used:

  • 1 Corinthians 1:17
  • Colossians 2

Subject:

  • Being worthy: there is nothing worthy in me.
  • When we realize this we can look at what is important, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
  • We want to think somehow we are worthy.
  • The bar is so high none of us will ever reach it, but the blood of Jesus makes up the difference when we’re in Him.
  • Salvation is open to everyone.  That is foolishness to the world.
  • The world judges us by our stature or lack of stature.
  • The righteousness He gives us is the only worthy thing.
  • Jesus loves us all, no matter who we are, whether we are exalted in the world or the homeless guy in the gutter.  It’s the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ that covers us.
  • Faith is where it starts, obedience to the line of authority and to His Word to walk forward in His ways.  The more obedient we are the greater freedom He has to work with us as we yield unto Him.
  • The Word is with power.  It isn’t about our worthiness.  The words are for us to speak as the oracles of God and have the power to transform individuals’ lives.
  • If you do them believing they will be granted.  But do it not wavering.
  • If it’s all about you, you will not make it.  It’s giving in to our fleshly nature.
  • We receive Him when we believe the Gospel.
  • We need to humble ourselves to recognize we are nothing.
  • We need help.  We should ask: Please wash me in the blood of Christ, that I may go forward in Christ Jesus, walking as He walked.
  • When you realize you’re a lousy good-for-nothing the only way is up.  You have the same power in you.  He doesn’t hold back anything.
  • We are rooted and built up in Him.
  • The old guy has not changed, it doesn’t matter, we don’t care about the old guy, we want that new man that is rooted up in Him.
  • We are taught to be not about us.
  • We don’t care about the old man, He is dead.  We are thankful that His grace covers us notwithstanding the screw-ups.
  • He fixes it and we rejoice!
  • The preaching of the cross is to the world foolishness.  To us it is the power of God.
  • Bring to nothing: it was nothing to begin with, He just confirms it.  We do this with others with compassion,  and realize we were and are there.
  • The world looks at the natural, and comes against those in the Lord.
  • No FLESH should glory in His presence.
  • Being base: those that have always been base cannot believe they can do great things; then they don’t have to be responsible.
  • Those that were exalted in the world have a different struggle, on the other side of things: they have to constantly be humbling themselves.  It’s a struggle, but on the opposite side.
  • We meet from our different sides into that narrow way.
