The enemy will work against any attempt you make to draw closer to God. Satan is looking to kill, steal, and destroy and do whatever it takes to keep a soul away from God. You must fight, by faith, to overcome that enemy (satan and the flesh) and continue forward to seek God. Christianity is not about looking good to others and doing works to look important to please God. It is about having a personal relationship with the creator and being reconciled back to God.
