Speakers:

  • Robin Atherton
  • Karen Hocker
  • Megan Atherton

Scriptures used:

  • 2 John

Subject:

  • Letter written to an elect lady, she elected God.  She was one that was serving the Lord.
  • Bringing the truth to someone is love.
  • Her children were also walking in the truth, and this caused John to rejoice.
  • He is exhorting her and her children to continue to do as the Lord commands, and love one another.  This is the theme throughout the letters John wrote.
  • If we are not in the body, we can’t love one another, because Jesus is love.
  • Through the line of authority we receive the correction that is important to our walk in the truth.
  • Walking after His commandments is love.  He asks us to walk in it.  He stresses this, saying it twice in v. 6.
  • He cautions her to be wary of deceivers (one who causes to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid), who will try to turn away believers from the truth.
  • He asks them to look to themselves, be aware, so that they (she, John, and other believers) don’t lose the reward which they have wrought, (worked hard for).
  • If you transgress and abide not in the doctrine of Christ, you don’t have God.  They that abide in the doctrine of Christ have both the Father and the Son.
  • Don’t bid God speed (to be cheerful, i.e. Calmly happy or well off, be well, be glad, God speed, greeting, hail, joyfully, rejoice) to those who are not abiding in the truth, neither receive them into your house.
  • John doesn’t write a long letter because he expects to come and visit her and speak face to face.
  • The elect lady has an elect sister who greets her through John.
