Scriptures used:
- Matthew 5:13-39
Subject:
- Beattitudes and how they apply to things going on right now with the Duck Dynasty and A&E situation.
- Believers are to be the salt of the earth. Salt holds back corruption. In order to be salty you must believe and receive the Word of God. To receive the Word means to agree with God that He is right.
- Believers are to be the light of the world. Shine Jesus’ light on others so that they can see that there is something different, contrary to the darkness of this world. Show that light openly so other can have a chance to know Jesus is real.
- Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. Jesus was able to fulfill the law perfectly. Because Jesus walked perfectly it shows us why we need a savior. Jesus showed how much we fall short and why we are in need of His mercy and grace.
- If you have an issue or problem with a brother or sister in the Lord get it straightened out quickly. Often times we will dwell in anger against another and the longer we stay in that place the worse it gets. It will bring corruption and disease into the body.
- Trust in the power of Christ. Jesus was able to stand perfectly in righteousness. We, on the other hand, are not able to. If we be in Christ and He in us then trust Him.
- The purpose of the Sermon on the mount was to show people that the law was spiritual. It shows us that we need Jesus, and need Him more than we ever would have thought. We justify ourselves by our actions or lack of action. We have evil thoughts in our hearts towards others but because we don’t actually carry them out in the natural we see ourselves as being innocent of wrong doing. The fact is we ARE guilty of wrong doing because Jesus sees the motives and thoughts of our hearts and we are accountable for those thoughts and motives. Jesus sees whats on the inside while we only see what people do on the outside.
