TFM-TexasSpeakers:

  • Richard D. Eutsler, Sr.
  • Scott Bishop
  • Bob Hicks

Scriptures Used:

  • Proverbs 3:5
  • Philippians 3:7
  • Mark 1:16

Subject:

  • Lean not unto your own understanding – this is what we learn from the world, school, family, friends.  Our understanding is not the same as the Lords understanding.
  • A short-timer attitude.  In the military you know the guys who are going to be changing station because they stop showing up, they see the end is near so they let off the gas pedal.  You see this in children towards the end of the school year too.  This is a natural thing we do, but this is leaning on our own understanding.  We need to follow through to the end and not let up until it is accomplished.  If you let up you stop being a soldier before the end, before you are discharged of duty.
  • Do you have a short-timer attitude towards God?
  • How quickly can the attitude you had at the beginning change?
  • We need to continually push ourselves toward the mark Jesus set.
  • We get our name “The Fishermen Ministry” from this verse in Mark (and the one in Matthew).
  • God will take what you know and use it to further the Word and Jesus, i.e. Salesmen – Jesus allows you to sell the Gospel.
  • We are sinners and for that reason we need to know and understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is very simple.  Jesus died on a cross, gave up His life (a perfect, obedient, sinless life) to save some idiot like me, like you, because you couldn’t do it yourself.
  • When God looks at me, all He sees is Jesus.
  • I want God to see me as Jesus, not God to see Jesus in me.
  • It wearies me, as a man, that when I say do a thing the person says “Why?” or “I don’t understand”.  You don’t have to understand.  If it wearies me, as a man, how does it affect God as our Savior when you are asked to do a thing and your response is “in a minute” or “why”?
  • If we’re going to learn to be a provider of grace and love and a salesman of the Gospel, we have to know the Gospel and the grace and the hope and the faith and we’ve got to learn to say “Yes Lord”.
