Subject:
- We have done many things in the law in the past in ignorance just like Paul. We are all sinners and to say we are not is to lie.
- None of us deserve what the Lord is giving us freely, the gift of grace and peace with God. Our tendency is to war within ourselves, it is a hard place to fall into and sometimes a hard place to get out of. But if you get into the Word of God and start looking and reading, you can find words that help and comfort and strength to draw upon from Jesus Christ.
- Everyone was looking at Peter like a rock star but he didn’t get caught up in it, knowing it had nothing to do with him, but gave all the glory to God. Because of that we see many being healed of sicknesses and unclean spirits.
- Have you ever said wait a minute? This world is bound up with time, we say we don’t have time, that we’re out of time. We say give me a minute. Imagine if we could keep time or give it away to others who needed time.
- The world is ruled and driven by time, but we all have the same amount of time in a day, but God is not bound by time.
- Jesus said He was the “I am” (not bound by time) and it upset folks. He is the eternal God, everlasting, without beginning and end. He is “I am” not “I was” or “I will be”. He cannot be traced back to a beginning, nobody made Him as we see if we believe the first four words in the Bible.
- We need to look at our tough times as a fraction of a grain of sand in an hour glass. This life is but a minute compared with all eternity. The attitude of the world is that life is short, get what I can, run from responsibilities, look out for number one, we see our time as my time, it’s all about me.
- The wisdom of God says life is short, a minute. The fact that it is just a minute should strengthen us to endure. Can’t we stand persecution, temptation or struggles for just a minute and wait on the Lord for a minute. We can if it is not about ourselves. It must be about Jesus and eternity.
- This life is just a minute and the hope of what’s to come is surely worth the wait.
- Why are you saved?
- We know God so loved the world. Not the earth – the earth is the creation, the world is the creature and the creature was Adam (mankind). God so loved mankind that He gave His Son to redeem us, but what for?
- We are born into this life under sin. Because we are born under sin the first thing is me, me, me. It never stops, we just get more sophisticated at it. We always want more, bigger and better. It is human nature to want more. We eat one chip and want another and want until the container is empty, it’s never enough. God did not give us salvation to eat chips.
- “Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.” This verse is recognizing the church of the Thessalonians elected God as their God not that they were the elect seed of God.
- In America the president is elected under a democracy. You elect him to do what you want him to do, but the Kingdom of God is not a democracy, a republic or a dictatorship. When you elect God you elect to follow and obey and to serve under a theocracy. God is supreme, you are to seek His will. He gave His Son for the creature to be able to serve Him, not for Him to serve the creature.
- Every morning when we wake up we need to set our minds first thing that this is a day that God has given me and I will use it for what He gave it to me for and that is to serve Him. If I serve myself then I am a liar, a thief and a cheater because I elected God as my God and I am not serving Him.
- Let us change our ways and repent and say Lord, I want to do it right. From this day forward know that the time is given for Him, to serve Him.
- How do we serve Him? By serving one another. It can be by making the meals, doing the books, serving your husband. We serve Him by serving one another with love.
- If you’re called upon to witness or to minister you are serving the Lord. If you get an attitude you’re not serving the Lord, you are saying in your heart that you want to be served, that it is all about you.
- Paul tells us to become followers of the Lord and serve Him.
- If you follow a man or a group you are called a cult. The same was true in Paul’s day. The true definition of a cult is a people that follow the teachings of a man or a group. I follow the teachings of Paul the apostle and I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. I am not ashamed of it and I will not avoid it. I also know that by doing so I will come under attack and persecution. It’s okay, I would rather be attacked by the world than by God.
- Let the world bury itself. Jesus said, “let the dead bury the dead.” I want to belong to the living and the only way to belong to the living is to take serious the election of God and to serve Him and not ourselves.
